London Lecture of December 1853: "On the Origin of Some Architectural Styles"

series of five that Gottfried Semper presented to the Department of Practical Art in London in 1853. The title, "On the Origin of Some Architectural Styles/' was supplied by Hans Semper in his German translation of the lecture for Gottfried Semper Kleine Schriften (1884).} Much of this lecture follows the text of Semper's published pamphlet of 1851, Die Vier Elemente der Baukunst (The Four Elements of Architecture).
