A Link Availability Channel Model for the Railroad Satellite Channel

This paper presents a procedure to derive a link availability channel model for mobile applications by complementing a multi-state propagation channel model with adequate considerations concerning the modem characteristics. The resulting two-state model can be used for performance assessing at data link layer. Although the reference scenario in this paper is the extension of DVB-S2/RCS to the railway scenario, the presented procedure is very general and can be hence applied to any other scenario.
