Knowledge of farm women of Wayanad district, Kerala about goat rearing practices.

A study was undertaken to asses the knowledge of farm women in Wayanad district about goat rearing practices. Proportionate stratified random sampling was used to select 103 farm women from among the list of women from the three taluks of Wayanad district, who had been selected for loans to set up goat units in 2006 under the State Poverty Eradication Programme. Knowledge of goat rearing practices was assessed by preparing an arbitrary knowledge test after judges rating and consisted of 26 items. The results of the study revealed that very few women had correct knowledge about important aspects of breeding, housing and deworming of goats. Nearly three fourths of them had correct knowledge about vaccination against foot and mouth disease.
