Reduction of vibrations in an induction machine supplied by high power PWM inverter

This paper describes a study concerning the reduction of the vibrations of an induction machine, supplied by a high power PWM inverter. First, we introduce the vibration sources in electrical machines. Then we present two methods to modelize the vibrations, specially in consideration with the current and voltage supply. The noise and vibrations measurements, realized on marine electrical propulsion induction machine, show several interactions between vibrations and power supply waveforms. This point explain that some PWM supply configurations are optimum considering a vibration level criterion. We conclude by presenting an optimal PWM strategy, and clarifying the main drive vibration sources
