Spatio-Temporal Patterns of Activity

When we studied relations between two cells we did not see anything unexpected. We found that two cells may act independently, they may share a common input or they may affect each other synaptically. All these relations could be expected from the known physiology and anatomy. We gained some insight into the cortical connectivity by quantitative analysis of the probability of connections and of the strength of connections, but did not detect any sign of a new type of relation between units. We found that pairs of units work essentially in an independent way and that many diverse sources of excitation (and inhibition) may affect every unit, but we did not see anything that could suggest how the information is coded in the activity of the neural network.
