Extracting Breast Tumor Boundaries from Ultrasonic Images Based on Local-Fitting Active Contour Model

A new boundary extraction method for ultrasonic breast tumor images is proposed. On the basis of Chan-Vese(CV) model, this method implements boundary extraction using a level-set based active contour model by defining a novel Local-Fitting term, which offers a better result than the CV model for the segmentation of ultrasound images with inhomogeneous regions. This method is applied to 89 clinical ultrasonic breast tumor images for edge extraction experiments, and the results show that this method can implement edge extraction of ultrasonic image efficiently.
