A photovoltaic power control algorithm covering complete range

Substantial growth in the solar photovoltaic utilization and high PV penetration demands new and more flexible PV power control algorithms. In this paper, a modified control algorithm is proposed for PV based systems which control power yield from the PV installation. The conventional maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms are in extensive use for optimized power yield. Unfortunately, they don't provide any flexibility in the control of other electrical parameters. The proposed algorithm allows MPPT and also provides additional flexibility of power control which is today's need to develop more sophisticated PV based systems. The proposed control algorithm can be easily embedded in most PV applications, to achieve power control functionality. This is possible without hampering the basic MPPT functionality. The detailed modeling of PV-fed converter is presented. The new approach of converter control design and control scheme have also been discussed. Simulation results are provided to evaluate the designed controllers and working of the proposed algorithm.
