In this study, an attempt has been made to investigate the strength enhancement of steel fibre reinforced concrete (SFRC) through the compressive, flexural and splitting tensile strengths. For this purpose, steel fibres with hooked-end type, having aspect ratio (l/d) of 80 was used in the mix. In order to determine its mechanical properties, tests on cubes (all sides equal to 150mm), cylinders (150mm dia. x 300mm height) and beam prisms (150x150x750 mm) was carried out. The amount of steel fibres in the concrete mix was based on the volume fraction, vf of 0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.00, 1.25, 1.50 and 1.75% (0, 19, 37, 56, 75, 93, 112 and 131kg/m 3 ). The results indicate that the compressive strength of SFRC is not influenced by a steel fibre contribution. Nevertheless, the steel fibre is highly enhanced the flexural and splitting tensile strength of SFRC. An optimum range of volume fraction was also suggested in this study where 1.00 ≤ vf ≤ 1.50.
