Reliability Modeling for Linear Consecutive-k-Out-of-n:F Systems Subject to Dependent Competing Failure Processes

The linear consecutive-k-out-of-n :F configuration is a very practical redundant method to improve system reliability. Many systems with this configuration experience multiple dependent competing failure processes (DCFPs) caused by simultaneous suffer to shock and degradation processes. Therefore, the reliability modeling that considered both the dependence of the competing failure processes and the characteristics of the linear consecutive-k-out-of-n :F (Lin/Con(k/n) :F) systems will be a new challenge. This study develops a novel reliability model for Lin/Con(k/n) :F systems subject to DCFPs. The component reliability model and system reliability model are utilized to describe the system behavior on this condition. The developed model is demonstrated by a case of pumping station systems in the petroleum transportation. It is shown that the reliability of Lin/Con(k/n) :F system subject to DCFPs is lower than the system only subject to degradation process.
