Polyphase output cycloconverter

PURPOSE: To provide an inexpensive reactive power compensation polyphase cycloconverter constituted of reverse parallel connection of an external commutated converter and a self-commutated converter. CONSTITUTION: A common AC power supply(transformer) 1 is connected with a plurality of self-commutated converters 2 and a clipper circuit 5 for suppressing overvoltage at the time of commutation of the self-commutated converters 2. The self-commutated converter 2 is connected in reverse parallel with an external commutation converter 3 which is fed with power from the common power supply 1 through a reactor 8 for suppressing current at the time of commutation thereof.
