Peta Bit Per Second Optical Transmission with Spatial Division Multiplexing

Recent progress on space division multiplexed optical transmission is reviewed. 2.05 peta bit/s transmission with 114 spatial multiplecity, ultra-high aggregate spectral efficiency of 947 bit/s/Hz and long haul transmission over 6160km with 200 Gbit/s channel bit rate have been achieved.
