Reconstruction and imaging of intracerebral hemorrhage by electrical impedance tomography

Intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) is a very serious neurological disease which bring a heavy burden to the social and family. As a functional imaging technique, electrical impedance tomography (EIT) could reconstruct electrical properties associated with functional changes in tissues or organs inside the body. It is sensitivity to water content and blood flow. Theoretically, EIT could image intacerebral hemorrhage associated with blood flow. In this study, we injected autologous blood to pigs to establish ICH model. The results showed that, electrical impedance (EI) and average resistivity value (ARV) started to decrease after blood injection, and until the end of monitoring. Compared to the control group, EI and ARV of the experimental group decreased significantly (P < 0.01). The experimental results suggest us that EIT is sensitivity to ICH of pigs. EIT could be used as an important technology to monitor ICH.
