The inverse problem for a fluid over a layered elastic half-space

The authors investigate the problem of determining the coefficients which characterize a layered isotropic elastic half-space, given point-source reflection data in an overlying fluid layer. Uniqueness and continuous dependence properties are analysed in some detail. A constructive solution procedure is described and illustrated with numerical examples.
