Optimal Location of TCSCs in a Power System by Means of Genetic Algorithms Considering Loss Reduction

This paper presents a genetic algorithm based method to use TCSCs in power systems in order to increase system loadability and to decrease the total loss. Optimizations are done on two parameters: the location of TCSCs and their values. A sensitivity analysis is used and the most sensitive lines are chosen to be compensated by TCSCs. For this purpose, the steady state model of TCSC is utilized. The proposed algorithm is realized on a 30-bus standard IEEE network and results are mentioned. Obtained results show that the choice of optimum number and values of TCSCs in transmission lines increases the system loadability and decreases the total loss.
