Optimal Design of Power System Stabilizer Using a Novel Evolutionary Algorithm

Inthisarticle,anOppositionalDifferentialsearchalgorithm(ODSA)iscomprehensivelydeveloped andsuccessfullyappliedfortheoptimaldesignofpowersystemstabilizer(PSS)parameterswhich areaddedtotheexcitationsystemtodampenlowfrequencyoscillationasitpertainstolargepower system.Theeffectivenessoftheproposedmethodisexaminedandvalidatedonasinglemachine infinitebus(SMIB)usingtheHeffron-Phillipsmodel.Themostimportantadvantageoftheproposed methodisasitreachestowardtheoptimalsolutionwithouttheoptimaltuningofinputparameters oftheODSAalgorithm.Inordertoverifytheeffectiveness,thesimulationwasmadeforawide rangeofloadingconditions.ThesimulationresultsoftheproposedODSAarecomparedwiththose obtainedbyothertechniquesavailableintherecentliteraturetodemonstratethefeasibilityofthe proposedalgorithm.
