Load forecasting is the foundation for planning of an efficient, reliable and economical distribution system. Forecasting inherently involves dealing with uncertainties. Fuzzy set theory and fuzzy logic provide a way of coping with some of the problems related to power distribution load forecasting. This paper presents research and basic ideas behind the development of a new spatial load forecasting method. The method is based on fuzzy reasoning and application of geographic information system (GIS). Necessary theoretical background of fuzzy rules creation via fuzzy clustering is given. Possibilities of application of such fuzzy model identification to spatial load forecasting are introduced. Selection of input variables affecting a fuzzy model and the role of GIS have also been discussed.
