Starting from the structure of industrial robots the state of technology in control system and sensors is described. The great progress in electronics within the last few years allows the manufacturing of complex control systems and sensors with a high reliability. This enlarges the future application of industrial robot in fields like deburring, die forging and assembly. Robot controls, developed in recent years, perform arithmetic evaluations and allow easy programming as well as more flexibility in the sequence of operations.
Tactile and optical sensors will be used in adaptive controls, supervising the process or enlarging the occupational safety.
