Comparison of Results of Roentgen Examination and Puncture and Irrigation of the Maxillary Sinuses

ROENTGEN examination is generally used in the diagnosis of maxillary sinus diseases, especially the sinusitis. Samuel (1953) has pointed out that the radiologic examination suffers from sources of inaccuracy which may be of technical or of anatomical nature and that a radiologically opaque maxillary sinus is to be regarded as a sign but not as a definite diagnosis. The purpose of this investigation was to study the correctness of the roentgen diagnosis of maxillary sinusitis. This was made by comparing the results of a roentgen examination and puncture and irrigation.
