Overview of the Multipurpose Aircraft Simulation Laboratory experience

The MASLab project was launched with the goal of developing a full mathematical model for three different aircraft, belonging to three different categories: a large commercial aircraft, a regional aircraft and a business jet. These models were purposely requested to test new technologies, such as an innovative Flight Management System, developed within the Systems for Green Operations ITD of Clean Sky. To perform the tasks for which it was conceived, MASLab had several technical specifications, dictated in terms of prediction accuracy and interface capabilities. This paper is an overview of the process that lead to the development and validation of the aircraft models, all equipped with their full Automatic Flight Control System suite, which can be operated either by the Flight Management System, on the basis of data generated by a properly developed Performance Data Computation Tool, or manually, through the pilot cockpit of the Flight Simulator.
