Abstract : The Civilian American and European Surface Anthropometry Resource (CAESAR) project was a survey of the civilian populations of three countries: The United States of America (USA), The Netherlands, and Italy. It was carried out by the US Air Force, with the help of 1) the contractor, Sytronics Inc., 2) The Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research (TNO), and 3) a consortium of companies under the umbrella of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). The sampling strategy used was a stratified sample with gender, ethnicity, and age categories all equally sampled. To arrive at summary statistics for the USA, the data were weighted using the data from the National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey III (NHANES III) and the US Census from 1990.
