X-Band Compact Microwave Terminations

We propose a new topology of microwave termination in rectangular waveguide technology that makes it possible to significantly decreases the length of the device. Classical topologies were studied as references. For all these topologies, impedance matching is achieved by a progressive filling of the waveguide that leads to bulky devices. The compact proposed topology, named Manhattan-like termination, is based on a discretization of the absorber in the form of blocks with different lengths. It leads to very compact microwave terminations (2 times shorter than classical topologies). Experimental demonstrations based on 3D printed absorbers allow validation of this concept at X-band.
