APPLICABILITY OF ASPHALT-RUBBER MEMBRANES IN REDUCING REFLECTION CRACKING

The paper characterizes the asphalt-rubber material used to form membranes in pavement rehabilitation projects aimed at retarding the development and growth of reflection cracking. Provided is a description of the various asphalt-rubber membrane systems available and a discussion of surface preparation requirements, design consideration and construction details. The paper also gives a number of case histories of the performance of the various systems, presents conclusions based on observations to date and cites some potential future developments.
