Quasi-static compression of the human pelvis: An experimental study

Epidemiologic studies showed that low-energy pelvic and acetabular fractures are common and affect women especially (Melton 1981). In order to evaluate the injury level of the pelvis ring, an experimental study was performed. Quasi static antro-posterior loads were applied to human pelvis ring, in order to quantify the mechanical response of the biological tissues. The load-displacement characteristics of the pelvis were established and the associated injuries were noticed. Results were used to the validation of a numerical model and the simulation of pelvic bones trauma.
