12 GHz PIN-HEMT optical receiver front end

An optical receiver has been designed and fabricated which has a transimpedance of 53 dB Omega , a bandwidth of 12.5 GHz and an equivalent input noise current of less than 11 pA/ square root Hz over the bandwidth. A sensitivity of -20.7 dBm has been measured at 10 Gbit/s using a 2/sup 7/-1 pattern. To the authors knowledge, this is the best measured sensitivity reported for a 10 Gbit/s receiver to date. Simulation shows that this receiver is capable of operation at 15 Gbit/s. >
