Characteristics of a new class of diode-switched integrated antenna phase shifter

The effectiveness and bandwidth of a new class of diode-switched integrated antenna phase shifter are examined. A well-known example of this type of antenna is the "spiraphase." The operation of this type of antenna is found to be for circular polarization only. When used as a reflecting element, the effectiveness of the antenna is not broadband. A much wider bandwidth is expected by using this antenna as a direct radiating device.
