State reduction for MLSE equalizer in fiber-optic communication impaired by CD

We propose a method to reduce the trellis states in Maximum likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE) in a 10-Gb/s optical ON–OFF keying (OOK) System and analyze how the method increases the performance of MLSE equalizer.
