MITIGATION OF RAY EFFECTS IN THE DISCRETE ORDINATES METHOD

Numerical experiments are conducted in an attempt to mitigate ray effects in the discrete ordinates method. It is found that it is possible to reduce the ray effect by increasing the number of discrete directions, but it is necessary to simultaneously improve the layout of the discrete directions. Three corresponding countermeasures are proposed.
