Pathophysiology of development and rupture of cerebral aneurysms.

Based on a series of experimental studies, this volume provides a new perspective of the pathophysiological factors responsible for initial development, growth and eventual rupture of cerebral saccular aneurysms. The blood flow patterns in cerebral arteries are analysed in the first part and the stresses responsible for the initial formulation of aneurysms are derived. The circulation inside aneurysms that have already formed is subsequently dealt with, and a concept of the anatomical relations of saccular aneurysms is proposed, which is based on the intra-aneurysmal blood flow. The properties of aneurysmal tissue are then analysed and an understanding of the mechanisms involved in growth and rupture on aneurysms is developed in the last part.
