The Design and Evaluation of English Class Equipped with the iClass Platform Incorporating Motivational Strategies

Based on AI technology in computer science and motivational strategies in educational psychology, this study investigated how the combination of them affected students’ academic motivation and engagement in college English classes. The AI-assisted platform called iClass was used for quiz and motivational strategies such as group work and news report were used for instructional design. Participants included 240 freshmen enrolled in the English course. Half of them belong to the experimental group and the other half were the control group. Statistic methods for data analysis include Independent samples t-tests, correlations, and regression. Online questionnaires were used for data collection. The results revealed that students in the new interactive learning environment had more interests about the coursework and had more sense of empowerment and success than those in the control group. These findings suggest that the iClass platform incorporating motivational strategies provide new perspectives and experimental evidence for designing an interactive learning environment for college level courses.
