Application to Lung Conformai Radiotherapy of a SPECT and Computerised Tomography (C.T.) Image Registration Method

Owing to the proximity of the critical structures, conventional radiotherapy doesn’t allow one to exceed the total dose of 65 Gy delivered to the target volume, which is notably insufficient (1). 3D conformai radiotherapy allows one to exceed this dose. Traditional simulation tends to be replaced by virtual 3 dimensional simulation. Dose Volume Histogram takes into account the quantity of pulmonary parenchyma included in the treated volume without keeping count of its functional characters (2). This has many consequences, because this treatment is frequently used in subjects with limited extension of tumour but inoperable for the reason of insufficient respiratory condition. The purpose of this study is to validate a coupled exploration procedure, both scintigraphic (ventilation-perfusion tomo-scintigraphy) and tomodensitometric, applicable to radiotherapy of the lung (3.4.5).
