Compression of diagnostic resting electrocardiograms

dA new scheme for the reduction of resting electrocardiograms (ECGs) is designed. A representative cycle is computed from the resting ECG record. This cycle, sampled at 500S/s and with amplitude quantization of 5 mu V/LSB is compressed by redundancy reduction. The representative cycle is subtracted from the original record at all complex locations. The remaining data-the residual-can then be compressed by the reduction of sampling rate, coarsed amplitude quantization and Huffman encoding. To preserve QRS details within reconstructed records the respective data sections are only redundancy reduced. By means of the new method compression ratios of 10-30 are obtained.<<ETX>>
