Dynamic System Characterisation for Design Purposes

Spectral association, or eigenvalue to state association, is a tool for determining the sources of dynamic modes within a process. It provides information on only the response speeds and interactions of the system states. It is a potentially useful design tool because the physical significance of the states is retained. The unit perturbation spectral resolution matrix (UPSR) has been developed as a new method of spectral association. The UPSR improves on previous methods by providing a quantitative measure of the strength of association between eigenvalues and states, and indicating when 1-1 associations are not appropriate and multiple associations are required.
