Comparison Models of DFIG for Stability Assessment of Wind Farms

In recent years with growing concerns over carbon emission and uncertainties in fossil fuel supplies, there is an increasing interest in clean and renewable electrical energy generation. Among various renewable energy sources, wind power is currently the fastest growing form of electric generation. The increasing size of wind farms requires power system stability analysis including dynamic models of the wind power generation. Nowadays, the most widely used generator type for units above 2MW is the doubly-fed induction machine. Detailed models for doubly-fed induction machines are well known but the efficient simulation of entire power systems with hundreds of generators requires reduced order models. In this paper we propose a model for DFIG. Also with using DIgSILENT Software as simulation program, simulation studies are carried out to demonstrate and compare conventional model and proposed model for stability in IEEE10 machine -39 bus test system.
