DURABILITY SURVEY IN KUWAIT

A combination of hot, dry, and salty climatic conditions that prevail in the Arabian Gulf region is one of the most demanding exposure regimes to which reinforced concrete structures are subjected. A survey of the condition of 50 concrete buildings in Kuwait was undertaken to formulate recommendations to enhance the durability of concrete structures in the Gulf region. In general, the buildings in the survey did not show any initiation of degradation. The buildings chosen in the survey were located at varying distances (0.5 to 20 km [0.3 to 12 mi] from the coast.
