FUZZY LOGIC TECHNIQUE FOR PAVEMENT CONDITION RATING AND MAINTENANCE-NEEDS ASSESSMENT

This paper discusses the development of a fuzzy logic-based system of pavement condition rating and maintenance-needs assessment for a road network of an industrial park. These two aspects constitute the backbone of the entire project that was undertaken with the aim to streamline the pavement condition survey and reporting procedure, and the decision making process of pavement maintenance. Fuzzy mathematics offers a convenient tool to incorporate subjective analysis and uncertainty in pavement condition rating and maintenance-needs assessment. Computer programs have been developed for PC operation that allows for easy revisions of the assessment basis, and has a module for training of new staff.
