EXPERIMENTAL MEASUREMENTS ON A PARTIAL HTGR CORE MOCKUP

The nuclear design of the Peach Bottom HTGR core involved development of calculation techniques sod input data for the specification of the core loading. Although some of the input data were derived from experiments with the lattice critical assembly, it was desirable to test the calculation methods and input data on a relatively clean assembly having characteristics similar to those of the HTGR core. The experimental program was planned to calculate overall k/sub eff/ and the accuracy of calculations of the reactivity coefficients of the various core materials. Experiments were also included to check the effectiveness of control rod groups and the over-all temperature coefficient at temperatures up to 300 deg C. (J.R.D.)
