A design strategy of a bioreactor for platelet production using fluid force

In this study, we showed that platelets were produced from megakaryocytes using a bioreactor with a slope shaped 3D microchannel by applying fluid force. In previous studies, slit structures have been utilized to produce platelets in a microfluidic chip. However, it is difficult to trap megakaryocytes of various size by using the pre-patterned slit structures. Therefore, we present a bioreactor which can trap various size of megakaryocytes. In this study, we constructed a bioreactor with a slope shaped 3D microchannel, and succeed in on-chip platelet production.
