This study aim at investigating wasteland in Nigeria and examine the remedial means of avert the deteriorating situation to attained a protected and healthy land for effective sustainable development. Economics made it clear that land is a fixed asset. This signifies that flexibility is curtailed and transfer is impossible to areas where it is inadequate for man's use. Though land is renewable, yet it is exhaustible. Our myopic idea about its readiness and availability has hindered us from seeing the fact that its sustainability should gear us into both retroactive and proactive measures that will ensure continuous supply. Recent findings have shown that much of this scarce resource is been wasted in Nigeria of late. The findings are that much of the wasteland emanates from the actions of illegal miners, dumping of toxic waste, accumulation of non- biodegradable waste, trends of low cost housing unit schemes, oil spillages, natural disaster and the like.
