Sensorless PMSM Drive with a Sliding Mode Control Based on Adaptive Gain Observer

This paper presents a new sensorless sliding mode control method of permanent magnet synchronous motors based on adaptive gain observer. The sliding mode observer structure and an improved design method are described. Also Lyapunov functions are chosen for determining the adaptive law for speed and the position estimator. Simulation analysis shows that the method reduces the system chattering. The effectiveness of the proposed observer is confirmed by the experimental results.
