Black Box Method for The Radiation and Scattering Optimization of TCDA

A effective two port network model for tightly coupled dipole arrays (TCDAs) is proposed for the optimal design of their wide-angle impedance matching layers (WAIMs). Traditional circuit models try to replace the entire antenna by idea lumped components and it is difficult to achieve good antenna characteristics. In this paper, the entire antenna element in an infinite array environment is regarded as a two-port network and the intrinsic network parameters are extracted. By using particle swarm optimization (PSO) and substrate equivalent transmission line theory, the optimized TCDA has better VSWR performance and lower monostatic scattering property as compared to unoptimized ones.
