Wegener's granulomatosis arising in pregnancy

In 1939 Wegener described three cases of a necrotising granuloma affecting the nose but associated with more lethal lesions in lung and kidneys. The pathological features of the condition were later characterized as necrotising granulomatous lesions in the upper and lower respiratory tracts together with a glomerulonephritis, and some degree of vasculitis which may affect any organ system. We report a fulminating case of Wegener's granulomatosis arising in pregnancy which, to our knowledge, has not been described previously.
