Lysergic Acid Monoamide through the Internet: the case of Ipomea violacea

Lysergic acid amide (LSA) was identified in seeds of Ipomea violacea purchased through the internet. Five grams of ground seeds were extracted in both organic solvents and aqueous solutions, with LSD as reference standard. Identification of LSA was made by GC/MS; both extractive methods revealed LSA in the seeds, but at greater concentrations in the aqueous extract than in organic solvents. The ion fragment m/z 221 was used to quantify LSA, and was 0.023 mg/L in aqueous extracts.
