A NEW OFFSHORE SOIL INVESTIGATION TOOL FOR MEASURING THE IN-SITU COEFFICIENT OF PERMEABILITY AND SAMPLING PORE WATER AND GAS

The outcome of a development project carried out at the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) in close cooperation with the BAT Envitec company of Sweden to modify the onland BT water monitoring system for offshore use is briefly described. The equipment has been successfully tested (calibrated) onland and used in several offshore soil investigation projects. Different approaches to the interpretation of test results in terms of coefficient of permeability, gas content and hydraulic fracture pressure with some examples are presented.
