Neutron diffraction study on formation and structure of DxTaS2 and HxNbS2

Cathodic reduction of 2H–TaS2 in D2SO4 was investigated by transient neutron powder diffractometry. Deuterium was found to enter the lattice in a regular way. The structural model proposed implies a strong Ta–D bond. Single crystal neutron diffraction data on H0.76NbS2 confirm the position of hydrogen in a three‐center metal bond inside the dichalcogenide layers. Structural data are in accordance with inelastic neutron scattering data.
