A study on ring tensile specimens

A ring tensile test has been performed to obtain the hoop tensile properties of tube-shaped structures. In this study, we tried to apply the load-displacement conversion relationship of ring specimen to various ring specimen models. For this, we prepared various models of different clearance, notch and size conditions and performed FE analysis. From the test results, following conclusions were obtained. Load-displacement curves were distorted at too large clearance, while the load ratio used for calculating hoop stress, hardly converged at too small clearance. So the proper clearance value was needed. The load ratio is in proportion to the width of the gauge length but in inverse proportion to the radius of the notch. Hoop strain is proportional to the radius of notch but not the width of gauge length. In a large model, non-linear behavior was observed.
