The application of air-jet vortex generators to control the flow on helicopter rotor blades

The usefulness of Air-Jet Vortex Generators (AJVGs) as a means of flow control to enhance rotor section performance has been conceptually explored under quasi-steady conditions in the wind tunnel. Utilising only small amounts of blowing (Cμ≤0.01, Rec=1.1×10, M∞=0.1), we demonstrate that stall can be delayed by up to 6°, lift increased by up to 25%, drag reduced by up to 50% and the lift/drag envelope extended accordingly.
