A system is built that accepts pictures defined by vertices and the connections between them and transforms the pictures to digital ones. This system includes an algorithm that finds the simple domains or the “regions” of a picture. This algorithm also accepts unconnected pictures and non-simply-connected domains. An efficient algorithm is developed for determining whether a given point lies in the interior of a simple closed polygon. This system was implemented on the display of the PDP-15.
