Numerical simulation and analysis of navigation flow conditions in approach channel during Changzhou four-paralleling-lane locks filling and emptying

The third and fourth lane locks of Changzhou hydro-junction would be constructed paralleling at the right bank of the first and second lane locks and sharing the approach channel.By 2-dimensional flow numerical model,the navigation flow conditions in approach channel and entrance area during Changzhou fourparalleling-lane locks filling and emptying were analyzed.The results show that longitudinal current velocity in approach channel,transverse current velocity at entrance area and inertia head at lock head exceeding standard are the mainly influence elements for locks operating safety.There are little harmful effects to the first and second lane locks during the third and fourth lane locks filling and some harmful effects during emptying.There are little harmful effects to the third and fourth lane locks during the first and second lane locks filling and emptying.The third and fourth lane locks could not operate simultaneously at many normal conditions,and it must adopt the pattern which two lane locks filling and emptying each other for the third and fourth lane locks operating safety when the upstream water level is normal pool level for 20.6 m and downstream water level is designed lowest navigable stage for 3.32 m.
