BIM Modeling and VR Simulation for Optimal Design of Subway-Station Evacuation Facility

Most of the current public facilities focus on their utility and functionality. Therefore, they do not consider the evacuation of occupants in the event of a disaster. For this reason, research on evacuation methods and evacuation-time minimization is required. Therefore, accurate modelling of public facilities is important. This study presents a process of conducting virtual 3D modeling to evaluate the path during disaster by applying the Building Information Model for reverse engineering using laser scanning. We used the Anam Station as an example. In addition, the method of developing a virtual reality (VR) simulation for evacuation education is presented by applying a technology linked to VR. If the 3D modeling method and educational VR simulation methodology presented in this paper are applied to existing public facilities, we expect that people will be able to evacuate more quickly and safely in case of emergencies.
