Predictor-Based Solution to the H∞ Control of Dead-Time Systems*

Abstract In this paper the general (four-block) H∞ control problem for dead-time (DT) systems is considered. A new approach to the problem solution is proposed. The approach is based on the extraction of DT controllers from the parametrization of all delay-free H∞ suboptimal controllers. The approach enables one to avoid the use of infinite-dimensional systems theory and to derive remarkably simple and physically meaningful solution. In particular, it is shown that the set of all suboptimal DT controllers consists of a rational part in the feedback connection with an FIR predictor.
